Using Access Control To Ensure The Safety And Security Of Your Facility

Some industries require some form of commercial access control security system to ensure that the facility is secure at all times. Access control systems at this level are not like home security, but involve surveillance, access tracking, and verification of anyone entering the facility.

Physical Barriers

When considering commercial access control solutions for your building or facility, the best place to start is with a checkpoint or entry point that does not allow access to the facility without verification of credentials. One of the most effective ways to do that is with a security officer physically checking IDs as people enter the facility.

The process can sometimes slow the access to the facility, but it ensures that every person attempting to gain access is supposed to be there, and anyone that shouldn't be is turned away. In some cases, several officers may need to be posted at an entrance if there is a lot of foot traffic through it.

Automated Access

Areas around the facility may need to have access control, and you may want to consider automating it. A commercial access control systems installer can add things like gate codes or key cards to automated gates on parking areas and service areas to control access to the grounds around the facility. Often, these systems are backed up with a security officer at the entry points, but some companies will forego that in the interest of not creating a militant-like environment when people are approaching the facility.

You can use automated systems on doors that enter the facility, so only people with a key card can get into the building. Often, these systems allow your security department to add or remove access for a card on-the-fly, so if there is a problem with someone, they can be locked out of the system quickly.

Surveillance Systems

When you are looking for commercial access control solutions for integration into your facility, video surveillance is a good option. Video cameras set up at access control points allow you to monitor a door or barrier without putting an officer there. When used in conjunction with a keycard system, you will be able to track every person using that entrance.

If there is an issue with someone trying to access the control point, officers will see it and electronically lock the door to stop access through it until the issue is resolved. You can tailor commercial access control solutions to your needs, so if a visible deterrence is essential, you can add people and barriers. Still, if less aggressive is more your thing, electronic systems can do much of the job for you.
